Provincial Health Officer Updates Order Requiring the College to Continue to Collect and Retain COVID-19 Vaccination Status of Registrants

On June 10, 2022, the Provincial Health Officer of British Columbia (PHO) issued an amended Health Professionals COVID-19 Vaccinated Status Information Order

This Order replaces the Order of March 7, 2022, and requires all BC health regulatory colleges, including the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, to continue to collect and retain the COVID-19 vaccination status of all registrants, and requires all registrants to provide information about their vaccination status to their regulatory college upon request.

ORDER OF THE PROVINCIAL HEALTH OFFICER

Health Professionals COVID-19 Vaccination Status Information Order – June 10, 2022

(View Full Order)

The June 10 Order also requires the College to:

  • Provide information about the vaccination status of a registrant to a post-secondary institution upon request to aid them in determining if applicants to health science programs, residency programs and other postgraduate medical education programs are eligible to attend at places subject to the Hospital and Community (Health Care and Other Services) COVID-19 Vaccination Status Information and Preventive Measures Order and the Residential Care COVID-19 Preventive Measures Order
  • Continue to provide aggregate information about the vaccination status of our registrants to the PHO. The PHO will then be able to continue to make publicly available aggregate vaccination rates by profession;
    • Note: The PHO has advised she will not be ordering the publishing of the vaccination status of individual health professionals.
  • Provide aggregate information to the PHO or medical health officer, on request, concerning the location of all places where registrants work and the vaccination status of those registrants; or concerning all places where an individual registrant works and the vaccination status of that registrant.

In addition to the requirements noted above, the new order also provides clarity on acceptable forms of documentation for registrants who were vaccinated outside of Canada.

Please note that this Order does not impose a COVID-19 vaccination requirement. Separate public health orders remain in place requiring COVID-19 vaccination for health professionals working in residential careacute care and community care settings.
