This is a joint alert that was drafted with the College of Pharmacists of BC and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
The Canadian Integrated Program for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance released its report in August. The full report chronicles antimicrobial use in Canadians from 2000 to 2011.

“Treating and responding to addictions is a complex challenge,” said Health Minister Terry Lake at the announcement on August 6, 2014. “It not only affects that person, but it affects the families, friends, loved ones, and coworkers.”
This investment, which matches a $3 million dollar investment from Goldcorp. Inc. made in 2012, will fund the expansion of the current provincial education and research program. In addition, further funding was secured from the US National Institute on Drug Abuse for clinical trials of addiction medications.
British Columbia is a leader within Canada when it comes to HIV testing and awareness. Over the summer, two Vancouver-based community pharmacies and two Vancouver Island-based pharmacies began offering free HIV rapid testing – a first in Canada.
Health Minister Terry Lake said that B.C. needs to maintain its momentum. “B.C. is recognized as a global leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS and I believe that through bold action and smart investment we can remain leaders,” he said, in a statement.
The 2014 Annual General Meeting of the College of Pharmacists of BC is coming up!
The AGM will take place on November 22, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. at the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in downtown Vancouver.

The Guidebook for Pharmacists on Diabetes Management focuses on three key areas for effective diabetes management and care; glycemic management, cardiovascular protection and lifestyle modification.
On August 6, 2014 the Government of Canada launched a new pilot project that will seek input from Canadians with rare diseases to inform future orphan drug reviews.
The work derived from this project will be incorporated into how patient input will be gathered once Health Canada implements its Orphan Drug Framework.

The Arthritis Society is launching a specialized online program for pharmacists so that they can better support the health care needs of arthritic patients. The program is CCEP accredited and will be available in 1350 pharmacies at Guardian, I.D.A., PROXIM and the Medicine Shoppe locations across the country.
