Planned Service Outage and New eServices Password Requirements

On July 3, 2019, the College of Pharmacists of BC is implementing important updates to its eServices web portal, including improving the security of registrant information.

Temporary Service Outage 4:30PM July 2, 2019 – 8:30AM July 4, 2019

In order to implement these important updates, eServices will be unavailable from 4:30PM on July 2, 2019 until 8:30AM on July 4, 2019.

During this period, registrants, owners and authorized representatives will not be able to complete online registration renewal, complete online pharmacy license renewals, submit continuing education information, or complete practice review action items. Find a Pharmacy or Registrant on the College’s website will be unavailable during this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we complete these necessary updates.

Improving Password Security

With an increase in cyber security breaches around the world, these updates introduce new password requirements to better protect registrant data.

One of the most common ways that hackers and cybercriminals break into computers and online accounts is by guessing passwords. Simple and commonly used passwords enable intruders to easily gain control of devices or accounts for the purposes of identity theft, fraud and other cybercrimes.

Starting July 4, 2019, registrants, owners and authorized representatives with passwords that do not meet the new eServices requirements will be prompted to update their eService password upon attempting to log into their account.

Please note that if your password already meets these new requirements, you will not be required to update it.

New eServices Password Requirements

Passwords must now contain at least 8 characters and must include:

  • At least 1 letter
  • At least 1 number
  • At least 1 non-alphanumeric character (e.g. #@%)

Additional password best practices the College recommends you consider:

  • Avoiding sequential and repetitive characters (e.g. 12345 or DDDDD)
  • Avoiding context specific passwords (e.g. the name of your pharmacy)
  • Avoiding commonly used passwords (e.g. p@ssw0rd)
