On February 09, 2022, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, announced that she is issuing a new public health order that requires all regulated health professionals to be vaccinated by March 24, 2022, in order to work in their occupation in British Columbia.

This announcement expands upon an order issued in October 2021, which mandated COVID-19 vaccination for health care workers working in acute, long-term and community health care settings.

BC’s health profession regulatory colleges are currently consulting with the Office of the PHO on finalizing the new order and will share details, including direction around requirements and the timeline for implementation, once they are confirmed.

Information for Registered Pharmacy Professionals

Registered pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are not required to do anything at this time and will be contacted with updated directions once they become available.

The College supports the PHO’s vaccine requirements for health professionals to help protect patients from being infected with COVID-19, as well as to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on our hospitals and health care system.

Unvaccinated persons are at much greater risk than vaccinated persons of being infected with COVID-19, and of transmitting it to others. The public needs to have confidence that when they receive health care from a health professional, they are not putting their health at risk.

We strongly encourage registrants to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible to ensure they will be in compliance with the order once it is released.
