2021 Board Elections: District 2 Candidate - Ajreet Bassi

District 2 - Ajreet Bassi

I am thankful to call BC my home. I was born and raised in this incredible community and I am proud to raise my three young children here alongside my beautiful wife. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the shared, unceded traditional territory of the Katzie, Semiahmoo, Kwantlen and other Coast Salish Peoples on which I work and live. I am humbled by the strength and wisdom of the people of this land.

As a 2005 UBC Pharmacy alumnus, I have spent considerable time in this industry, wearing many different hats within the profession—as an associate at SDM, working for the Royal Columbian Hospital and even starting my own group of independent pharmacies.

Throughout my time in these diverse sectors, I have remained steadfast in my goal: to give back to my community and provide effective frontline care to patients.

In my current role as Director of Pharmacy Services at PocketPills, I oversee all pharmacy operations and ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations on a national scale. I also hold active practice permits in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Nova Scotia. Having firsthand experience in each of these provinces has provided me with a unique perspective which I believe can be a significant asset to the Board, helping to implement best practices from other jurisdictions.

I am passionate about driving change to modernize the standards of practice in pharmacy. I feel there are great opportunities for improving governance within our industry, especially in these turbulent times. Recent events have highlighted some key areas where outdated regulations are impeding pharmacists’ ability to provide optimal patient care. The incorporation of technology is a crucial initiative which requires collaboration with pharmacists to enact effective policies. It is of the utmost importance that these policies are reflective of our present needs and uphold ethical patient care as our first priority.

I would be honored to help serve and protect public interests by representing the Fraser Valley District as a Board Member for the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia. I am always happy to answer any questions and can be reached at 604-765-4951 or [email protected].
