District 6 Candidate - Tamar Koleba
Thank you for the opportunity to express interest in serving on the Board of the College of Pharmacists. In my professional and volunteer activities, I have had opportunity to practice being a good steward of public resources, to work with and for people with respect and dignity, and to learn and develop in areas of leadership, organizational effectiveness, financial literacy, and governance. My education and experiences include:
- Currently a Pharmacy Director with the health authorities in the Lower Mainland and have worked in acute, long-term care, mental health and substance use, community, urban and rural pharmacy settings.
- Completed undergraduate training and a hospital residency in Alberta, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria, and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia.
- Served on a number of Boards and councils, including CSHP BC (Presidential Officer), CSHP National (Treasurer), and AIDS Vancouver, and am currently on the Board of an environmental stewardship organization.
In my work and practice, I have come to recognize and appreciate the importance of regulators, including the College of Pharmacists, working together with government, registrants, and other stakeholders, in responding to the evolving health care needs and concerns of British Columbians. I would be pleased to contribute to this ongoing work as a member of the College of Pharmacists Board at a time when scope of practice is expanding, and the government and the public have increasing expectations of professionalism, accountability, value and safety in pharmacy practice in BC.
I gratefully acknowledge that I live and practice pharmacy on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations. I am particularly grateful for the Coast Salish people’s stewardship of the area known as False Creek where I live, and lament that they have been unjustly separated from this land due to greed and racism.
