Bylaws for Comment: Proposed Amendments to HPA Bylaws - Board Elections

The College of Pharmacists of British Columbia (CPBC) is seeking your feedback on proposed amendments to the Health Professions Act (HPA) Bylaws.

The proposed amendments are open for public comment for a 14-day period closing on July 17, 2025.

BACKGROUND

On June 19, 2025, the Board of the CPBC approved proposed amendments to the HPA Bylaws section 7 Terms of Office, and section 7.1 Election Cycle.

The proposed Bylaw amendments will extend the term of office for every elected board member from an odd-numbered electoral district for one year, essentially deferring the planned 2025 election to 2026. This will allow those elected positions holding terms expiring on November 27, 2025, to continue to serve for the limited time remaining until the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) is expected to come into force.

With approval from the Ministry of Health to shorten the notice period in accordance with section 19(6.2) of the HPA, it is anticipated the amendments will come into effect in August 2025. Similar amendments have been enacted by other health profession colleges which have recently amalgamated.
