Pharmacist Licensing

Pharmacist Licensing

To begin the licensing process with CPBC, you must first determine your licensing category, which depends on your pharmacy credentials, such as where you obtained your pharmacy degree and/or where you are licensed. While all applicants must meet the same core requirements and qualifications, there are different pathways to licensing. Refer to your relevant category below for more details.

Pharmacist from Canada (CFTA)

  • You are currently licenced as a practising pharmacist in another Canadian province or territory. The Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) allows your credentials as a Canadian pharmacist to be recognized for licensing in BC, therefore additional assessments are not required.

Pharmacist from Canada (Non-CFTA)

  • You previously practiced as a pharmacist in Canada, but your licence is no longer active or you are currently licensed on the non-patient care register. You are not eligible to apply through the CFTA, therefore assessments will be required for your licensing.

International Pharmacy Graduate (IPG)

  • You obtained your pharmacy degree internationally (outside Canada and the United States), and you are not licensed in Canada or the United States.

Pharmacist from United States

  • You are currently or previously licensed as a pharmacist in the United States.

New Pharmacy Graduate from Canada

  • You graduated from a CCAPP-accredited pharmacy program in Canada.

New Pharmacy Graduate from United States

  • You graduated from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program in the United States.

Student Pharmacist (UBC)

  • You are currently enrolled as a student in the Pharm D (entry to practice) pharmacy program at the University of British Columbia.

Student Pharmacist (Non-UBC)

  • You are a pharmacy student currently enrolled in a Baccalaureate or Pharm D (entry level) pharmacy program outside of BC and wish to complete a period of Structured Practical Training  (SPT), or provide pharmacy services while under the supervision of a full pharmacist in BC.
