After careful review of the Health Professions Act, the College has reconsidered its original interpretation of 2010 that permit pharmacists to administer the nasal spray flu vaccine LAIV (FluMist®). Therefore pharmacists are advised that they can no longer administer this vaccine to patients.
The College has determined that this type of administration of medication currently falls outside of the scope of practice for pharmacists, therefore Pharmacists must cease providing this service. If your pharmacy is currently providing this service, please ensure that this product is only administered to patients by health professionals who within their scope of practice can administer medications intranasally, such as physicians or nurses.
