The Volunteer of the Year Award is given to a committee member who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession and to the work of the College over the past year. They should exemplify a dedication to volunteerism, to the profession, and to the delivery of safe and effective pharmacy care to the people of British Columbia. Any committee member can be nominated, and the final decision is made by the Board. Winners of the award have often demonstrated the following:
- Dedicating their own time to the committee work of the College
- Volunteering for additional responsibilities over and above that required of a committee member
- Collaborating closely with other committee members to effectively carry out the mandate of the College
- Demonstrating a keen understanding of the public interest in the regulation of the profession

Volunteer of the Year - wayne chen
This year’s Volunteer of the Year recipient is Wayne Chen of London Drugs in Burnaby. Wayne has been actively involved in College activities since 2003, participating as a member of the Discipline Committee. The contributions and perspective Wayne brings to the College and the Discipline Committee have been invaluable. He is very dedicated and committed to the discipline process and has been appointed chair on several panels that have been extensive and arduous. As part of these panels, Wayne has gone above and beyond in the commitment of his own time to successfully completing this important work.
In addition to his commendable work with the College, Wayne is also a well respected and accomplished pharmacist in his community and was recognized as such in 2001 as the recipient of the London Drugs Award of Excellence.
